Semester 1 Final
Bridge over a pond of waterlilies by Claude Monet
Research site used: Claudemonetgallery
Research:
Monet was born in Paris and was raised in Normandy where he learnt to paint outdoors. Claude Monet did not receive an artist education, he instead learned informally from other artists. He studied drawing as a teenager. Later on in Claude Monets life he became friends with Eugene Boudin, who introduced Monet to painting.
Construction and interest:
The bridge over a pond of water lilies has always interested me. I love the use of colours and how it was painted. I wanted to construct this piece as I have always found it interesting and had some good ideas. I made the bridge sit with not having to have a supporting branch coming from the bottom, by shaping it and sitting it on a sponge to let not fully bone dry but still enough so it would stay in shape. I could then score and slip it on and it stayed in place pretty well. I then made the base into a water lily pad to make it less boring. I then used the jungle gems to add texture to my piece.
Reflection:
My piece turned out pretty good overall. I definitely would start earlier next time to give myself more time to work on it. If I had more time I believe that my piece could look better and I could have been more careful and detailed with it. I'm not a big fan of the colors on my piece, I didn't know how they would turn out. The colors are a bit strong. My piece is definitely simple so I would challenge myself next time and do something a little more harder.
